Thank you for considering me to quilt your precious quilt. It is my goal to provide you with the best quilting I can to enhance your work of art. Please read over the following guidelines so that the entire process runs smoothly. If you have any questions, please let me know. Contact me via email to schedule quilting time. I will provide you with a contract at that time.
Guidelines for Submitting Quilts:
- I quilt on a sit-down long arm and pin baste my quilts. Due to my available space, the largest quilt size I can currently accept is approximately 65" x 90". If you have a larger quilt and have the ability to baste it, let me know. We can discuss options.
- Please be sure both the backing and batting extend at least 3” beyond ALL FOUR edges of the quilt top.
- Please let me know if you need batting. I may be able to provide it at an additional cost.
- Please do not attach your binding prior to quilting.
- Please check your quilt top for open seams. The quilting foot can get caught in open seams and rip your quilt.
- Please clip all loose threads.
- Please press your quilt top and backing.
- If your backing is pieced, please use a smaller stitch length and press the seams OPEN. I prefer to piece my backings with 1/2" seams for extra security.
- Please remove selvedges from joined seams. You may leave them on outer sides of the backing.
- Do not provide bed sheets for backings.
- Keep in mind that your project will be quilted in the condition in which it is received. I cannot quilt out fullness, pleats, or puckers. I reserve the right to refuse any quilt top that I don't believe I can quilt in a satisfactory manner.
- Please stay-stitch 1/8” around the perimeter of a quilt WITHOUT BORDERS or WITH PIECED BORDERS so your seams don’t open up during the quilting process.
- Please remove all embellishments and pins from the quilt top.
- If your quilt top and backing are directional, please mark the TOP CENTER of the quilt top and backing so I know how to align them when basting. Also make a note of it on the contract.
- If pets are allowed in your sewing area, please make sure the quilt top, backing, and batting are free of all pet hair by using a lint roller prior to delivery.
- Due to my allergies I cannot accept a quilt top that smells of smoke.
- No refunds will be given for quilting services that have been completed.
All-over free-hand quilting designs are $0.03 per square inch. To calculate the number of square inches in your quilt, multiply the width by height. (Example: a 60”x 80” quilt = 4800 square inches x $0.03 = quilting cost of $144.) The minimum price for quilting any quilt is $60.00.
Custom quilting designs are a minimum of $0.06 per square inch. Designs and pricing will be agreed upon before quilting begins.
Quilting prices include up to 3000 yards of thread. If more than 3000 yards are used, there will be an additional $30 thread charge.
Please use a high-quality batting brand such as Hobbs, The Warm Company, or Quilter’s Dream. Batting that is irregular in thickness will cause irregularity in the finished quilt stitching. Quilting designs will stand out and be enhanced on a higher loft batting. These items are not included in the price of the quilting.
FAQ:
- Quilts are completed in the order in which contracts are submitted. If you need a quick turn-around, please let me know and I will do my best to accommodate your deadline. Feel free to contact me ahead of time to get on the schedule if you know that you need to get a gift done by a certain date.
- My quilting designs are all done free-hand and therefore can lead to variations in shape and design as I quilt your desired pattern. Photos of available patterns are below. Quilted samples can be viewed in person.
- I do not attach bindings.
- If you would like your top centered on your backing, please let me know. I will do my best, but cannot guarantee perfection.
- If the quilting pattern chosen has to be marked, I use Frixion iron erasable pens, air erase pens, wash out pens, or iron erasable Miracle Chalk for darker fabrics. Sometimes Frixion pens leave ghost image after ironing. They WILL wash out. If the outside temperature dips below 17◦, Frixion pen markings may return after removal and can be ironed out again. After the quilt is washed, they will not return. If you prefer that I do not use a marking pen, please let me know prior to quilting.
- Full payment is due when you pick up your quilt. No refunds will be given for quilting services that have been completed.
- All prices subject to change without notice.
